Australian Great White Shark - A Vacationing Family has a Serious Scare!
The following story has been circling the web and it’s absolutely crazy. There’s been a lot of speculation as to it’s authenticity or not and we now have the facts. Because it’s not mine and I wasn’t able to find a specific source for the story below I’ll simply leave it in quotes. If you’ve never seen the picture, try your best to read the story before you look. UPDDATE: Read below to find out if this is real or not!
“Family on holiday in Australia for a week and a half when husband, wife and their 15 year old son decided to go scuba diving. The husband is in the navy and has had some scuba experience. His son wanted a pic of his mum and dad in all their gear so got the underwater camera on the go. When it came to taking the pic the dad realized that the son look like he was panicking as he took it and the “OK” hand sign to see if he was alright. The son took the pic and swam to the surface and back to the boat as quick as he could so the mum and dad followed to see if he was OK.they got back to him he was scrambling onto the boat and absolutely shitting himself. When the parents asked why he said “there was a shark behind you” the dad thought he was joking but the skipper of the boat said it was true and that they wouldn’t believe him if he told them what it was. As soon as they got back to the hotel they put the pic onto the laptop this is what they saw.”

Great white sharks easily get that big and 2 humans dressed in black wetsuits are going to look like natural prey.
I say they’re lucky….
I never go diving in the ocean without my Glock modified harpoon in hand.
fake as all hell. the photgrapher would have panicked and notified the photo subjects. a whole lot of splashing and probably an attack. why would the shark just come up for a little snif like that?
fake.
No f!#$* way that is real bro!
The page looks great though!
That has got to be the most real and wholly plausible photo that I have ever seen.
[…] a blogger and you have something to say. If not, then go enjoy a great post of mine showing A Massive Great White Shark Stalking a Couple Scuba Diving and move on. It’s OK. Blogging isn’t for everyone and I’m going to lay it out […]
It’s fake — http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/scubashark.asp
Great place to debunk urban myths.
There’s the proof. Thanks lilredhead!
[…] the couple scuba diving with the massive great white shark coming up behind them. If not, you can click here, to read the story. Much like I did I’m sure you’re wondering, “Is this photo […]
Hey! I definately know its real. How could it not be? The photo shows his teeth up close and the one with the divers doesn’t.
Great photo - though I have to caution that it is probably fake (though I could be wrong).
Reason I say that: if divers were in Australia in area where great whites actually live (in far south where the seals, their food, live - in waters much like California coast with cold water, kelp, etc.), they would be wearing a lot thicker wetsuit or dry suits, hoods, gloves, etc. because the water there is damn cold. Whites do not live up in the Great Barrier Reef, where most divers in Australia go (that’s where my wife and I dove when we were there). That is not to say a white would never ever go up to warmer waters, but my understanding is that is very rare (their main food, seals, live in cold water in south).
I would be interested to see if the son who apparently sprinted to the surface in fear after taking the photo did OK as such an action would (unless he was close to surface already) would be extremely harmful to your health (that’s how you get the bends, which can do serious health damage).
