The following story has been circling the web and it’s absolutely crazy. There’s been a lot of speculation as to it’s authenticity or not and we now have the facts. Because it’s not mine and I wasn’t able to find a specific source for the story below I’ll simply leave it in quotes. If you’ve never seen the picture, try your best to read the story before you look. UPDDATE: Read below to find out if this is real or not!
“Family on holiday in Australia for a week and a half when husband, wife and their 15 year old son decided to go scuba diving. The husband is in the navy and has had some scuba experience. His son wanted a pic of his mum and dad in all their gear so got the underwater camera on the go. When it came to taking the pic the dad realized that the son look like he was panicking as he took it and the “OK” hand sign to see if he was alright. The son took the pic and swam to the surface and back to the boat as quick as he could so the mum and dad followed to see if he was OK.they got back to him he was scrambling onto the boat and absolutely shitting himself. When the parents asked why he said “there was a shark behind you” the dad thought he was joking but the skipper of the boat said it was true and that they wouldn’t believe him if he told them what it was. As soon as they got back to the hotel they put the pic onto the laptop this is what they saw.”

This is one BIG, MEAN, and HUNGRY looking GREAT WHITE SHARK.

Help Protect the Planet this Summer

Published by Lars under How to, Misc

Well it’s finally summer and that means bbq’s, picnic’s, eating out, hiking and getting outdoors. Here are a few tips to help make your outdoor summer activities more earth friendly.

  • Recycle

Nowadays many parks and picnic areas have recycle bins in them already so take a look around when you first arrive. If it doesn’t appear they do be sure you have a bag for garbage and a bag for recyclables. Keep the two separate and when you get back you can add the bag containing your bottles, paper, and cans to your recycle bin.

  • Eat Local

Couple of good reasons. One being that your food will be fresher not having to travel long distances to get into your stomach. Also, less gas is used transporting you from home to the store or restaurant. Right along the same line of thought, it takes less gas to move local produce from the farm to the local supermarket.

  • Stay on the Trail

While out hiking make sure you stay on the trail! It may not seem like a big deal and as much as you or your kids may want to go anywhere you want, it does have an impact when done in large numbers.

  • Use Less Toxic Bug Repellent

There are plenty of bug repellents out there that are “less toxic” than others. Ask someone at your store of choice for help finding one.

  • When Meeting for a Picnic or Hike Try to Carpool

Not only does it make the ride more fun because you’re all together but it’ll keep an extra car off the road.

Lose 20 lbs in 60 Days the Healthy Way! Part 2 - The Diet.

Published by Lars under Health

Match.com

Continuing from part one, “How to Lose 20 lbs in 60 Days the Healthy Way! - The Routine” let’s look at Luke’s diet and how it helped him drop 20 lbs in 60 days. Here are some examples of what Luke eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • Breakfast
  1. Luke eats a bowl of Kashi (A organic, cold cereal that has a lot of protein and fiber) with 1% skim milk.
  2. Another option is an egg sandwich. Consisting of 3 eggs whites, 1 yolk, and 2 pieces of cheese on whole wheat bread.
  3. You can drink a protein shake if you’re to busy for breakfast.
  • Lunch
  1. Eating a sandwich with lean meat and low fat is a great lunch. You’re getting proteins and carbs mixed together which can help with protein absorption and overall health.
  2. Rice bowls with lean meats. Be sure it’s brown rice!
  3. Sushi (No deep fried items.) Also keep it light on all the sauces.
  4. A big chicken salad with a light vinaigrette dressing.
  • Dinner
  1. Pasta with 7% lean beef.
  2. BBQed chicken or steak. Lean cut.
  3. Veggies with all meals is also helpful for overall health.
  • Snacks
  1. Fresh fruit of any kind 2x times a day.
  2. Nuts (not macadamia nuts) about a 1/3 a cup.
  3. Protein / granola bars.
  4. Meat, cheese and whole grain crackers.
  5. Watch the sugar and fat content with all snacks.

If you’re really working out hard and feel you want some extra protein you can have a protein shake mid morning between breakfast and lunch or another one a few hours after dinner but at least a few hours before going to bed.

Something to keep in mind as well is to not eat more than 50 grams of protein in any one sitting and to make sure you get some protein in you within 30 minutes after finishing your workout.

Lose Weight the Healthy Way-How to Drop 20 lbs in 60 days! Part 1

Published by Lars under Health

Match.com

Luke is a 29 year old, ex-mixed martial arts fighter and Fresno California native. A little over a year ago he suffered a debilitating knee injury that according to doctors would take him out of commission for up to two years. (The injury was a result of his two younger brothers and he getting into a fight. Go figure.) Two months ago he was 35 pounds overweight and decided his knee was in good enough condition to start getting back into shape. Here is a simple overview on how Luke lost twenty pounds, and continues to lose weight and gain muscle, over the last sixty days.

  • Make Exercising a Habit

Remember, you’re not Rocky Balboa so start out slow and stay consistent! Try spending half an hour to an hour a day at least 4 or 5 days a week. Spend half your time doing cardio and half your time using weights to build up muscle tone and strength. (The more muscle your body has the more calories it needs and burns.) 4-5 sets of 15-20 reps is a good place to start. Higher reps will build strength and start increasing your muscle tone. Try your best to keep up this regiment for at least three weeks to get a good habit formed. “The first 3-4 weeks are going to be the hardest. Being injured I had a good excuse, or so I thought, to sit around and not exercise. Getting out of that mentality was the hardest part of getting back into shape and losing weight.”, Luke says.

  • Make a 45m-1hr Long Audio Track to Listen To

For a lot of people, if not most people, music helps a workout in a lot of ways. By making exactly a one hour (for example) long playlist not only will the music most likely help motivate you, it’ll make sure your workout actually lasts an hour! After 20 minutes of consistent excerise your body starts to burn fat, but don’t over do it especially at the beginning! Lot’s of good reasons. Two being that first if you push yourself to hard and are to sore and tired to workout the next day, simply put, you won’t. And second, that studies show that after approxiametly 1.5 hours of consistantly working out you’re only damaging your body by continuing to push yourself. “Music will help fight boredom and depending on your music preferences, inspire you to push yourself harder. I listen to Rage Against the Machine, Korn, and Tool.”, Luke says.

  • Pick a Good Workout Partner

You don’t necessarily NEED a workout partner but they really can help a lot! If you can find a partner, pick someone that will motivate and inspire you. If you can find someone that is already in shape and consistently working out it will only benefit you for obvious reasons.

  • While “Forming Your Habit” of Working Out Stay Clear of the Scale.

During the first few weeks do NOT weigh yourself. It takes a while to notice a difference in the mirror AND on the scale and since you’re building muscle and losing fat you’re not going to notice much of a difference on the scale anyway! “Constantly checking your weight will only depress and leave you unmotivated, so steer clear!”, Luke advises.

  • Don’t be Afraid to Ask People in the Gym for Advice.

If you see someone with a great body, male or female, in the gym don’t be afraid to ask them for advice. They’ve worked hard to get the body they have and will more than likely be happy to give you any advice they can. Plus you may just make a friend!

  • Ways to Stay Motivated

First and foremost, according to Luke, is being able to fit into his “skinny clothes” again and being able to take his shirt off without worries. Not to mention the overall feeling of being healthy! You’ve probably got your own reasons for wanting to lose weight and get healthy so every time you feel discouraged try to focus on WHY you want to get back in shape to help keep motivated. Also, when tired or struggling to make it to the gym remember how good you ALWAYS feel afterwards. Exercising on a daily basis not only is good for your physical health but it can also help your mental health as well! “I always feel so much better physically, mentally and emotionally after a good workout. It just takes time to get there!”, Luke says.

As stated, Luke was 35 pounds overweight and after 60 days following the above schedule, in addition to the diet he’s on which you can read about in part two, Lose 20 lbs in 60 Days the Healthy Way! Part 2 - The Diet, has lost 20 pounds and continues to lose fat and gain muscle.

Lost Cellphone? How to recover after losing your cellphone

Published by Lars under How to

Late last year I bought an iphone and must admit I was one happy customer. I’d just gotten everything set up on my new phone and was still enjoying the “newness” of having an iphone when it was stolen. If that wasn’t bad enough it happened on New Years Eve of all days! Imagine being heartbroken and out of touch on one of the biggest days of the year, that was me. However, I was able to quickly and cheaply get myself “re-connected” so as to not be totally isolated while I continued to look for my iphone. Here’s what you do if you lose your cellphone.
Having an iphone means I’m using AT&T but I’m sure other cellphone providers are similar. Once I realized my cellphone was stolen I used a friends phone to immediately call AT&T to let them know to suspend my account to prevent any international calls or data charges. I then quickly drove down to Radioshack and purchased a “GoPhone”. They are only about $20 bucks and you get a $10 dollar mail in rebate so really it’s only $10 dollars. The key here is to NOT let Radioshack activate the sim card. Tell them you’ll do so on your own. What you’re going to need to do is associate the GoPhone’s sim card to your AT&T account. If Radioshack activates it on the spot you’ll have a randomly generated phone number and won’t be able to switch it over to your own phone number. Once you’ve got the GoPhone open the package and pull out the sim card. Call AT&T and press 0 to talk to an operator. Let them know that you’ve got a new phone and sim card and they’ll walk you through setting up your account to work on your new temp phone. You can now receive calls on your own phone number while you try to find your old phone or decide what you’d like to do about getting a new permanent phone. The entire process should only take about 20 minutes and the total cost is only about $10 dollars.

SAVE MONEY ON GAS - Make the Most of it at the Pump

Published by Lars under How to, Travel

With gas prices soaring we’re all looking for ways to maximize our miles per gallon and save money at the pump. These tips will also help you maximize your miles per gallon and thus make your car more efficient, helping save our environment. Here are some very simple ways to save money without having to go out and buy a hybrid. (Which wouldn’t be a bad idea at this point!)

  • *Best Money Saving Tip* Use Discount Gasoline Credit Cards

One of the best ways to save money at the pump is to use a gasoline credit card. One of the best I’ve found is the Discover Open Road Credit Card that can save you a full 5% every time you fill up or have automotive work done. You can click here to check out the deal and/or Apply for the Discover® Open Road Card.
Saving 5% on all fillups will most certainly add up over a years time for substantial savings. There are many different discount gas credit cards available and I can guarantee it’ll be worth your time to look into it.

  • *Best Gas Saving Tip* Try to fill up your car/truck when you’ve still got about half a tank

Gasoline evaporates at an incredible rate and the more gas you have in your tank obviously minimizes the amount of air you have in your tank. Gas storage tanks have an internal floating roof which serves as a “zero clearance” between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation.

  • Tank up in the early morning

As you know gas stations keep their storage tanks underground. Overnight the gas cools and becomes more dense, so by pumping in the morning your gallon goes a bit further. Pumping in the heat of the day the fluid has expanded and the gallon you’re paying for may not quite be a gallon because gas stations do not have temperature compensation units in place.

  • Pump your gas on the lowest setting possible

There are three different levels at which you can pump your gas. By pumping your gas on the lowest setting you are minimizing the vapors created. All gas pumps have vapor returns and more vapor is created when pumped at high speeds. You’re charged for it, but the vapor is sucked back into the service stations fuel tank so you’re not really getting your money’s worth! Pumping slower = saving money.

  • Remove all excess items from your car

You may think it’s not that big of a difference but driving around for a year with say, a set of golf clubs constantly in your trunk will most certainly add up. Every time you have to stop and start your car you’re having to move those clubs too!

  • Do not fill up your car or truck when a gasoline truck is refilling the stations tanks

This tip won’t necessarily increase your mpg but it’ll save your car. When a gasoline tanker truck is refilling the storage tanks at your favorite gas station and you need to fill up, just keep on driving. When a service station’s tank is being refilled the gas inside the tank is being stirred up. All tanks are going to have a small amount of dirt in them that will have settled to the bottom of the tank. When the service station’s tank is being refilled this dirt will be more likely to be floating around in the tank and you can actually pump some into your own car or trucks gas tank. You don’t have to be a genius to know that dirt in your car’s tank isn’t good

  • Check Your Tire Pressure

Your car’s owner manual should have a section telling you what tire pressure your tires should be at. By keeping your car’s tires properly pressurized you will easily increase your car’s mpg by minimizing friction.

  • Change Your Spark Plugs

Again, check your car’s owner manual to see how often you should change your spark plugs. This is another valuable tip to increase your car’s mpg and save you money.

These are just a few of the tips I’ve come across to help save money at the pump. If you’ve got any others please leave a comment. You may also find it interesting, as I did, to know Which gas companies import foreign oil.
